{Tokyo Disney Resort} Sindbad’s Storybook Voyage Ride

Sindbad

That’s Sindbad with TWO D’s.

There is a wonderful little ride at Tokyo Disney Sea called Sindbad’s Storybook Voyage.  This charming attraction features a 10-minute long boat ride with hundreds of animatronic figures, an entertaining storyline, and background music composed by the great Alan Menken.  However, all this wonderfulness must be a secret to most visitors, because there has never been a wait whenever I’ve gone on it.  I’m always able to walk straight up to the boats and jump right in.

The story within the ride is fairly straightforward: Young Sindbad has grown tired of his humdrum life in his sleepy Arabian village and sets out to find fame and fortune on the high seas.  Accompanied by a feisty tiger cub named Chandu, the duo encounter a number of adventures involving wild birds, a huge ogre, and bunches of bananas.  Yes, you read that correctly, bananas.  Loaded with treasures and riches galore, Sindbad and Chandu return home in full glory on the back of a whale.  The delighted villagers hold a festive celebration complete with fireworks, good food, and belly dancers.  Alan Menken’s delightful song, “Compass of Your Heart”, soars in the background and we get one last glimpse of Sindbad and a slumbering Chandu before the ride ends.  “Remember to follow the path you believe in,” our hero advises, “and thank you for joining me on my journey!”
