Since M and I have been to the Universal Studios in both Hollywood and Orlando, we were curious to see how the one in Osaka would compare.  Getting to the park was extremely easy: from the JR Osaka Station it took a mere 12 minutes to reach the Universal City Station via 2 trains.  In order to get to the park’s entrance we had to first pass through Universal City Walk.  It was mostly a hodgepodge of chain restaurants and stores selling souvenirs.  The one standout was the Takoyaki Museum featuring 5 different takoyaki restaurants.  It’s too bad that neither of us like takoyaki very much!

I’m sure I let out a little shriek when I first saw the entryway to the park….I love going to theme parks!  The line for the ticket booth wasn’t very long but it moved so slowly.  I’m not sure what the hold up was because when my turn came to pay, it was a very quick transaction.

We ended up having a wonderful time at Universal Studios Japan!  Or at least, I did, I think M was just tolerating it for my sake.  They had a few rides that neither of the US parks have such as Space Fantasy, Back to the Future, and Jaws.  (Back to the Future used to be at the Hollywood park but it got shut down; same for the Jaws ride at Orlando)  There was also an adorable area called Wonderland featuring rides and stores based on the Peanuts gang, Sesame Street characters, and Hello Kitty.  Even though it was geared towards the younger crowd it was still fun to walk through.  The one letdown was the food but we didn’t get much more than a couple of snacks and a small lunch anyways.  It wasn’t very crowded the day that we went, although it was a Thursday so maybe all the kids were in school.  I’m sure that once Harry Potter arrives late next year, attendance will be at an all time high!  Now that we’ve been to three of the world’s Universal Studios there’s only one thing left to do……..Universal Studios Singapore!
